HVAC Commissioning

HVAC Commissioning

The Total System Balancing process can be compared to ASHRAE’s definition of commission:  the process of ensuring that systems are designed, installed, functionally tested, and capable of being operated and maintained to perform in conformity with the design intent.

Total System Balance HVAC Commissioning is functional performance testing and verification of systems according to ASHRAE standards.

PSA’s responsibility is to establish at some point in time, that all components, subsystems and interfaces between systems function in accordance with the contract documents.

The ASHRAE guideline recommends that the commissioning agent who implements the overall commissioning process, be involved with the project from pre-design to the occupancy stage. The commissioning authority then develops the commissioning plan, observes functional performance tests, establishes the documentation, and verifies all documentation.  The final sign-off is the Designs Engineer’s responsibility and they certify that the building meets design criteria.
